Passing the Ministry of Health (MOH) Exam is the first step to work as a Nurse in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

MOH exam requirements for nurses

Who are eligible to apply as a Nurse for MOH exam?

Attending the MOH exam and registering as a nurse in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain is open to all foreign nurses with the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree of minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration. 
  • A valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment.
  • A minimum of current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to scope of practice.

Assistant Nurses who holds a Diploma of Nursing not less than 18 months course duration can apply for DHA. Assistant Nurses and Assistant Midwives cannot work independently and shall work under a registered nurse or midwife.  Nurses qualified with a Bachelors Degree in nursing but are qualified as ‘Assistant Nurse’ may apply for title upgrade provided that their experience as an assistant nurse as not exceeded 5 years. UAE National graduates require the degree and university to be accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE/NQA).

What are the specialty titles recognized by MOH for Nurses ?

The following specialty titles for nurses are recognized by DOH. There are no additional examinations for attaining the below titles. 

  • Community Nurse
  • Pediatric Nurse
  • Mental Health Nurse
  • Critical Care Nurse
  • Neonatal Nurse
  • Home care Nurse

MOH UAE Nursing Exam

The exams are done on computers from test centers located in major cities in every country, managed by Prometric company. There are 8,000 test centers in more than 160 countries.

The MOH Prometric exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions with a maximum time of 2 hours and 45 minutes allowed to solve them.We run a FREE trial runs of practice questions for all exams for MOH nurses which will be a good place to get a feel for the nursing exam questions. MOH Nurse Exam Results

Results are usually released within 5 working days.A pass score is 50% correct answers for registered nurses and 45% correct answers for assistant nurses to pass through the exams.

A Pass or Fail, result is granted which can be found online on MOH account. The exam score will not be shared. An email will also be sent to registered email ID with the results of exam.

A maximum of 3 attempts are allowed to pass this exam. Failure of all 3 attempts requires evidences of further studies or training to be eligible for a fourth attempt.

Exemptions from MOH CBT exam

Nurses who hold a valid license and Good standing from the below listed countries will be exempted from the Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife Exam. 

The equivalent exams from the below listed countries must be valid (if the document does not state a validity, it shall be accepted within 5 years from the date of issuance). 

Exam exemption is not applicable to Nurses exceeding 2 years of Gap of Practice (excluding UAE nationals).

Note : If the healthcare professionals did not complete the university studies in English or if his/her license belongs to a non-English speaking country from the above list, one of the below English language proficiency must be provided.

  • IELTS score of not less than 5.0
  • Occupational English Test (OET) score of not less than C
  • Cambridge Assessment English score of not less than 169

How to apply for MOH exam for nurses?

Documents required for new applicants for Data Flow Verification:

  • Photograph with white background
  • Passport
  • Secondary school certificate (10th or 12th standard)
  • Qualification (Nursing Certificate with transcript)
  • License (recent 2 years)
  • Experience certificate (recent 2 years)
  • Good standing certificate (from licensing authority) not older than 6 months of issuance
  • Valid Basic Life Support Certificate

How can I apply for MOH Nursing exam and get MOH License ?

Step – 1 – Create an account on MOH website

  • Visit the MOH website on https://smartforms.moh.gov.ae:444/login.aspx?returnurl=%2frun%2fruntime%2fform%2fservicelaunchform
  • Register in e-services, then access the e-system.
  • Complete the application with necessary documents and submit the application to MOHAP UAE.
  • If it meets the requirements, the application will be approved following which the necessary fee is paid.

Step – 2 - Primary Source verification (PSV)

The MOH has partnered with Data Flow Group to screen nurses for the MOH healthcare sector. The PSV runs thorough checks on the educational background and credentials of all professionals who submit a MOH license application. These checks ensure that only genuine profiles make it to the MOH Medical Registry.

  • After the application is paid and approved by MOH, an email will be sent to the registered email ID regarding Dataflow.
  • You will be provided with a link to pay the certificate verification fees (Dataflow).
  • Once the fees are paid, the application procedures will be completed.

Step – 3 Book your Exams

  • An email will be received within 2 -3 days after submission of Dataflow, to select the exam date.
  • Login to the website and the eligibility ID will be created.
  • With Eligibility ID, visit the prometric website and schedule the exams.

Step – 4 Activate your License

An evaluation letter will be available on the website after the dataflow verification and exams are completed. After receiving a job offer, the license is activated.

If the application requires a final license (issuance of a new license, re-licensing or transfer of a license):

  • The clinic/hospital must submit the required documents to the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
  • The employee nurse concerned will approve the application, provided all conditions are met, and issue the final license.

Break or Gap in practice

Nurses who have not been working in clinical practice for more than two (2) years and opting to be licensed in the UAE must follow the CME/CPD requirements below.  

From 2 to less than 3 years

20 CME/CPD credits

4 months of training

From 3 to less than 4 years

40 CME/CPD credits

6 months of training

From 4 to less than 5 years

60 CME/CPD credits

8 months of training

From 5 to less than 10 years

100 CME/CPD credits

12 months of training

Nurses (Apart from UAE nationals) after completion of CME/CPD credits and clinical training program as above are required to pass the MOH licensure exam to obtain the license to practice.

Renewal of MOH Licenses

A minimum of 20 CME/CPD credits a year are required for nurses to renew their MOH Nursing License. 

Document Requirements for Renewal of DOH Nursing Licenses

  • List of CME indicating number of hours
  • Application letter from the clinic/hospital 
  • Updated passport
  • Valid good standing certificate not older than 6 months of issuance
  • Valid BLS
  • Private Medical License ( If working in private facility)
  • Malpractice insurance against medical errors. 
  • Contract of employment. 
  • Copy of the last issued license. 
  • Copy of Emirates ID card.
